ACN Activities

Dialogue for co-operation in promoting CSR/Responsible Business in Indonesia (16 June 2017, Jakarta)   



On 16 June 2017, in Jakarta, ACN met with a few Indonesian Businesses and CSR Organisations to discuss ways of working together in order to make a bigger impact in the country on CSR and Responsible Business. ACN CEO Thomas Thomas hoped that making progress in Indonesia would greatly help with progress in the region and provide lessons for other ASEAN countries to learn from.

Facilitating the discourse were ACN Advisors Noke Kiroyan and Rafendi Djamin together with Chair Yanti Triwadiantini and CEO Thomas Thomas.

The organisations were the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), The Employers' Association of Indonesian (APINDO), Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN) and the Habibie Centre. 

The meeting ended with ACN and the representatives agreeing to support Indonesian organisations to promote CSR in a coordinated manner, an agreement to promote a common understanding of what CSR is, and to organize a follow up meeting in August to have plans to realize the objects of the meeting.

LCF CSR Expo: Disrupting for Social Good (19-20 July 2017, Makati City, Philippines)  


The LCF CSR Expo brings together the Philippine business community and other sectors to discuss the latest trends, models and practices in CSR, and promote a common framework for action in support of sustainable national development.

The Expo includes a conference and exhibition as its main attractions: the conference being a platform for CSR practitioners to discuss new ideas and trends, address issues and challenges, provide new knowledge and skills, and showcase CSR success stories. The conference is open to all companies and individuals interested in CSR, for a fee inclusive of all meals and conference materials.

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute, in cooperation with ASEAN CSR Network, will be offering the above course that aims to strengthen capacities among and between key actors to address related challenges in Southeast Asia from their different roles and perspectives.

The course will take place over 8 days (5 in July, 3 in September) and all costs including, travel and literature, will be covered by RWI.

​​ASEAN CSR Fellowship continues in Myanmar, 3-7 July 2017, (Myanmar)


 

This July, the ASEAN CSR Fellows will travel to Myanmar – in the third part of their journey to learn about responsible business. ACN has worked with the Union of Myanmar Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) to develop the 5-day programme (3-7 July 2017), which will cover CSR from the perspective of an emerging economy. Myanmar is currently undergoing an economic and political transition, and Fellows will gain insight into issues surrounding responsible investment, energy and extractive industries, the impact of Burmese ‘Repatriates’ on the business community and responsible tourism. They will also be doing site visits to a Coca-Cola factory and a garment factory to learn about best practices. This will be the second to last stop for the Fellowship, which will end in July 2017 in Manila.

ASEAN bolsters global partnership to end violence against children


 

Regional inter-governmental organisations around the world gathered in Manila for the 7th High-Level Cross-Regional Roundtable on Violence Against Children. Led by the UN Special Representative of the Secretary General on Violence Against Children (SRSG on VAC), ASEAN Secretariat, and the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development, the roundtable themed “Placing Children at the Heart of the Sustainable Development Agenda: Accelerating Progress in Children’s Protection from Violence” shared progress and good practices on eliminating all forms of violence against children.

At Expo 2017, UN agencies highlight benefits of clean energy for all

Showcasing the centrality of the energy sector to address global sustainable development challenges, United Nations agencies in Kazakhstan at EXPO 2017 have urged the global community for new momentum to ongoing efforts towards transition to clean energy.

Thailand's Role in Strengthening ASEAN beyond 50: Inclusivity, Human Security and Sustainable Development

On the occasion of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 50th anniversary, Thailand, as a co-founder of the ASEAN, aims to strengthen ASEAN by promoting Inclusivity, Human Security and Sustainable Development.

The key ingredient to ASEAN's past success and a critical factor in ASEAN's bright future is its people, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand, stated. So it is on people where the ASEAN Community should focus its efforts. Therefore, Inclusivity, Human Security and Sustainable Development are important priorities that ASEAN should undertake to make an even better and stronger ASEAN for the next generation.

Tackling Integrity Risks in Government Contracts

This Guidebook is designed as a practical methodology to help countries diagnose integrity risks in the public procurement system and processes, as well as to indicate proper actions to mitigate them. In addition, the Guidebook is designed to help governments in the region upgrade their procurement systems during the Second Review Cycle of the UN Convention against Corruption (2017-2021).

Small Grants Fund: Yayasan Tambuhak Sinta

In 2016, Yayasan Tambuhak Sinta applied for the Small Grants Fund in order to provide a framework for the better management of a CSR Coordination Forum (CCF). All planned activities were completed by the middle of May 2017. Through the project, YTS has built a reputation as an NGO focusing on strengthening governance and sustainable community development in areas affected by extractive industries. It has also been asked by the government to be the supporting organisation to support and strengthen the CCF through its expertise on capacity-building.
